Explaining ambiguity in scientific language

چکیده
The idea that ambiguity can be productive in data science remains controversial. Efforts to make scientific publications and intelligible computers generally assume accommodating multiple meanings for words, known as polysemy, undermines reasoning communication. This assumption has nonetheless been contested by historians, philosophers, social scientists, who have applied qualitative research methods demonstrate the generative strategic value of polysemy. Recent quantitative results from linguistics also shown how polysemy actually improve efficiency human I present a new conceptual typology based on synthesis prior about aims, norms, circumstances under which arises is evaluated. supports contextual pluralist view polysemy’s practices: does both substantial positive negative work science, but its utility context-sensitive ways are often overlooked norms people formulated regulate use, including scholars researching propose historical patterns use partial synonyms, i.e. terms with overlapping meanings, provide an especially promising phenomenon integrative addressing these issues.

Explaining and Controlling Ambiguity in Dynamic Programming
Ambiguity in dynamic programming arises from two independent sources, the non-uniqueness of optimal solutions and the particular recursion scheme by which the search space is evaluated. Ambiguity, unless explicitly considered, leads to unnecessarily complicated, in exible, and sometimes even incorrect dynamic programming algorithms. Building upon the recently developed algebraic approach to dyn...
متن کاملAmbiguity Detection: Towards a Tool Explaining Ambiguity Sources
[Context and motivation] Natural language is the main representation means of industrial requirements documents, which implies that requirements documents are inherently ambiguous. There exist guidelines for ambiguity detection, such as the Ambiguity Handbook [1]. In order to detect ambiguities according to the existing guidelines, it is necessary to train analysts. [Question/problem] Although ...
متن کاملAmbiguity in language networks
Human language defines the most complex outcomes of evolution. The emergence of such an elaborated form of communication allowed humans to create extremely structured societies and manage symbols at different levels including, among others, semantics. All linguistic levels have to deal with an astronomic combinatorial potential that stems from the recursive nature of languages. This recursivene...
متن کاملScientific Ambiguity and Climate Policy
Economic evaluation of climate policy traditionally treats uncertainty by appealing to expected utility theory. Yet our knowledge of the impacts of climate policy may not be of sufficient quality to be described by unique probabilistic beliefs. In such circumstances, it has been argued that the axioms of expected utility theory may not be the correct standard of rationality. By contrast, severa...
متن کاملSyntactic Properties of Language of Scientific Communication in Persian Scientific Works
Purpose: The language of science is one of the social types of Persian language, which is used by the educated classes in scientific works and contexts. The purpose of this research is to present an overall picture of the syntactic properties of the Persian scientific language. The types of sentences, types of tenses, verb tenses, and syntactic constructions have been identified in the scientif...
